Why Hello There

October 27, 2015

As the year 2015 begins to shift into winter, I am making a fresh start here at The District Table. Everything has to begin somewhere, so here we go.

On this blog you’ll find a wide range of recipes—some handed down from the Midwest, and some new concoctions from my DC kitchen. My primary goal is to put a healthier spin on the recipes that I grew up with, although there will definitely be the occasional indulgences. I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by amazing bakers and cooks, where measurements were more likely to be a pinch or a handful rather than cups and teaspoons. (Seriously, my grandma’s dumplings turn out the best because of the size of her hands.) The main thing that I learned from them though is this: there is nothing quite like the way that food brings people together.

There will also be posts about what’s going on in the District of Columbia, since it’s part of the blog name and all that. I am always on the lookout for the latest happenings and events, mostly centered around free food. (Ha, did you think I was going to say politics? No.) Other than recipes and DC happenings, you can expect to see odds and ends about everyday things that interest me, things that I want to share with you.

A little more about me: I will always be a country girl at heart, though my current urban abode would fool you. I can eat half my weight in my mother’s sugar cookies. I am addicted to chai. I am terrible at getting out of bed in the morning. And it’s supper, not dinner. Read more on the About page, if you so please.

Cheers to making memories. Thanks for being here.
